Our first-ever sports day

Our first-ever sports day

Every big moment needs someone behind it. Ours was Madam Beatrice Nyandega.

This term marked a first in our school's history: GLOW children stepped out to compete at zonal level, against schools far bigger and far older than us. And it happened because of one teacher's belief that they belonged there.

Madam Beatrice joined GLOW at the start of this year. She's a wonderful Kiswahili teacher, loved by children and parents alike, and now head of our games and sports — and it was her drive that carried us to that starting line.

Our children were the youngest there by some way. They knew it, and they competed anyway, holding their heads high and giving everything against older, more experienced teams. For a school taking its very first steps into competitive sport, we couldn't have asked for more.

There's real talent coming through — a whole crop of budding footballers who follow the Premier League as closely as any child here in the UK. This was just the beginning.

With your support, and teachers like Madam Beatrice leading the way, our children will keep stepping up to bigger stages — and showing exactly what they're capable of.
